Memory Lane~Christmas!

I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year. ~Charles Dickens
I thought for the few weeks leading up to Christmas I would reminisce about Christmas joys! I have a whole album of Christmas Photos that I put out every year and I love to pour over them. So many happy, fun, magical moments. And I love being able to add even more memories and photos each year! When the kids were small they were awful about shaking their gifts and trying to guess what was inside. So we started using Reindeer names for their presents. You would not discover who was Blitzen,Comet or Cupid until Christmas morning.Over the years we have used them all and mixed them up each year.I just asked Steve if there are any girly reindeer names because this year we need one for Ashlyn!!Even though they are much older, that is going to be a lasting Carter tradition. All of Steve's gifts from me are for "Mr Claus" from "Mrs Claus" I have saved so many precious to-from tags over the years. The ones that say 'To the best Dad ever from your son' 'To the greatest Mom love Chad Carter' (loved when they would add their last name)'To the love of my life from Santa Steve' But before a single gift is opened we always sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus. It is only because of Gods Grace and goodness that we are able to give at all. What are some of your favorite memories? I would LOVE to hear about yours too.

I believe Vixen is the girl reindeer. I save the tags too! How funny is that. I love to read them over each year as I wrap. I keep them in my X-mas wrapping stuff. The reindeer and elfs buy presents for our "kids" and so do the animals at our "farm". We always have cheesecake for dessert because that was my moms favorite and I always made one for her Birthday, which just so happens to be Dec. 25th!(and FYI her name was Mary!) So we always sang Happy Birthday to her and baby Jesus.

I always loved the story about "Olive, the other Reindeer" Maybe Ashlyn could be Olive~! I keep old Christmas cards that were special to me. I tried to make a photo album of all the pictures I received through the years from friends and family. It is so much fun to see how people change or even stay the same! You make me want to wrap something now!

Golly Karen, I don't know if I'm quite ready for all this Christmas cheer this early in November!! I just barely put out the Thanksgiving decorations (today!) I don't know much about Santa's reindeer, maybe it's because no one really talks about any of them being girls (and you know I have only girls) but Vixen gets my vote for Ashlyn. My favorite thing about Christmas is wrapping the gifts, it's my only talent, I usually spend more on the wrapping than what's inside but I love for the gifts to look beautiful under the tree. I can sometimes spend an hour just on one gift. Oh my gosh, this is making me very anxious...just the thought about all of this ahead of me!! I glad you love Christmas but I'll be glad when it's over!

Well helllllO christmas! :) What a fun surprise to find on this hot, 80 degree day here in san diego. at least SOMETHING feels festive :) Anyways, thank you to you all for the mention of me being "Vixen". I do like the sound of it ;). I LOVE this tradition you carters do and cannot wait to be a part this year. SO FUN! We Donatelli's sing happy birthday to jesus too...and a most favorite tradition of ours is opening up our stockings first, then having a wonderful christmas breakfast, then doing gifts. We open 1 at a time, around in a circle and it makes the joy last and last. I'm excited to be a part of new traditions.... :)

awe I LOVE this! That picture reminds me of the one where we put those big bouncy balls in our shirts and treated our new "tummys" like drums! I think that this was around that age :)

Sorry about my last post, Sophia. I just re-read it as if I were you and I can understand why you didn't understand it. You have to be a Utah resident or a BYU or University of Utah grad to know about the YEARS of rivalry between these two schools. Saturday is the final football game in the Mountain West Conference between these two great universities, a BCS bid is on the line and the Conference Championship, it's a HUGE game. My son-in-law, Raleigh, is a U of U fan and he has brainwashed Brayden, our beloved grandson, to come over to the "dark side". The rest of the family are BYU people, with the exception of Brent who roots for ASU (who are they???) Anyway, thanks for loving us in spite of our sports enthusiasm!
